20th Century Fox and The Multiverse Network are developing an MMO game based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. At least it doesn\'t have goblins and elves in it.
The MMO was named during a Virtual Worlds Conference keynote by Multiverse producer Jon Landau, where he promised a \"ground-breaking MMOG\".
Interestingly, the Buffy MMO will come in two forms; as a full-on 3D environment and a Flash-based 2D game. Both types of game will be able to interact with eachother and there\'s something called \"Mutliverse Places\", a \"new social virtual world\" from Multiverse. Hmm.
Whether it\'s free-to-play or a full, boxed release is unclear at this point.
\"As a brilliant storyteller and world-maker, Joss Whedon crafts stories that expand perfectly into the new medium of virtual worlds,\" said exec producer Corey Bridges
\"Not to give away too much, but when the \'Buffy\' team finished the television series, they created the perfect launching point for an MMOG where everyone will feel like they\'re an important character in the ongoing story.\"
Buffy goes into beta testing later this year.

Pandora handheld console dated and priced

To follow on from the news that spy brought you on Show 28 about the open source handheld console no not the but the Pandore well it has been dated and Priced.
The Pandora handheld console has finally been dated and priced by the manufacturer and the good news is that the homebrew-focused console, which claims to be the most powerful handheld ever, should be out in time for Christmas in the UK.
For those not in the know, the Pandora is a handheld console in the same vein as the GP2X from Gamepark, though much beefier. The handheld will likely see few if any commercial games getting released from established developers and publishers and is instead focused on the homebrew and bedroom coders market - something which has been steadily growing over the last few years.
The Pandora should hit shelves in time for Christmas in the UK, priced at £199.99, which is perhaps just a tiny bit on the expensive side, but then this is very much a niche product for many. There\'s no word yet of prices or shipping dates for the US, though we do know that the first batch for the UK will consist of 3000 units thanks to a recent PocketGamer interview.
The Pandora handheld system is definitely a powerful little beast though, packing an ARM Cortex A8 chip clocked to 600MHz, as well PowerVR SGX OpenGL 2.0 ES compliant 3D hardware.
Input-wise the Pandora is an impressive beast too, boasting a 800x480 touchscreen, SVideo TV out, and an array of SDHC card readers. On top of that the Pandora has Wifi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and USB connection options.
MS and Sony: Exclusives aren't important

There was a time, back with the original Xbox and the PlayStation 2 and Gamecube, when platform exclusives were the most important thing about a console. It was a time when you invested your cash solely on the basis of which games you liked the look of - were you such a Resident Evil fanboy that you'd go for a Gamecube over an Xbox, or did Metal Gear Solid rock your boat more towards the PlayStation 2?
Nowadays though, exclusives aren't such a big deal - or at least, that's what Sony and Microsoft reckon based on the current sales trends.
Xbox Germany product manager Boris Schneider-Johne echoed comments made by PlayStation Europe boss David Reeves last week, saying that platform exclusives were no longer a driving force in the market.
"In the past, in the eighties and nineties, that was a major issue. I remember the big ‘Mario vs. Sonic’ debates. What we see today is that the influence of exclusive titles on the sales curves becomes ever smaller,” said Boris in a recent interview with Golem.de.
“In addition, we are in a situation that there is a head-to-head race on several consoles and that nobody is super clear in leadership - especially in matters of the PlayStation 3 against Xbox 360.”
“Given the production costs of the games, it is hardly possible for developers to commit itself exclusively to someone. Now Sony makes its own games for the console, we make our own games for the console. The titles are exclusive, as they are also attempts turnout the best of the console, but someone like Electronic Arts or Activision can have a business model of rarely developing for a console exclusively. Therefore, the exclusive title is a little less important.”
The question is though, what is important to you when you choose a platform these days? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.
